Mai Hosho (宝生 舞, Hōshō Mai), born on January 29, 1977, is a former Japanese actress and former singer. Her birth name (maiden name) is Mai Kitamura (北村 麻衣, Kitamura Mai).

Biography[]

Hosho hails from Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture. She was affiliated with ABC Promotion (currently A.B.C. Agency) until August 2006, then moved to Main Cast Production, Power M, and finally Office Kitano from June 2009 to May 2010. She attended Assumption Kokusai Kindergarten, Assumption Kokusai School, and graduated from Nichidai Joshi Gakuen High School.

During her time at Assumption Kokusai School in 1993, Hosho participated in the "3rd National High School Girls' Uniform Collection" hosted by Shueisha's comic magazine "Weekly Young Jump". She won the grand prize out of over 1000 contestants and made her debut in the TV series Twins Kyoshi. Later on, she transferred to Nichidai Joshi Gakuen High School.

In 1996, Hosho appeared in the TV dramas Ginrou Kaiki File and Heaven's Coin: Part 2. She was initially set to appear in the movie Rebirth of Mothra in the role of Moll, but due to illness, she had to withdraw, and Megumi Kobayashi, who was originally cast as Lora, took on the role of Moll, while Sayaka Yamaguchi was cast as Lora.

In November 1997, she released a single titled "Carnival". In 1998, she had a regular role in the Fuji TV drama series Shomuni.

In September 2006, Hosho moved her talent agency from ABC Promotion to Power M. On March 6, 2007, she married graphic designer Tetsuya Nishiura, who was seven years older than her, affiliated with the street fashion brand "Tenderloin". In June 2009, she transferred to the Office Kitano talent agency.

On May 31, 2010, Hosho announced her retirement from acting on her official website, stating that she wanted to establish herself independently, separate from the persona of "Mai Hosho" or any roles. Her final work before retiring was the movie Box!. She studied at the English Language Center (ELC), a language school in Los Angeles, until July 2011.

On January 9, 2013, she made a special appearance as the character Yae Shinshiro in the NHK General program Historical Anecdote, in the episode titled "The Unyielding Aizu Spirit of 'Handsome Woman' Yae Shinshiro's Journey in Aizu".

In addition, she was briefly listed on the aRma's "orphan work" list for her role in the TV Asahi series AIBOU season6 on May 23, 2015, due to difficulties in contacting her. However, her listing was removed from the organization's webpage list on June 17, 2015, as contact information was subsequently obtained from relevant parties.
